In the old days we always popped our popcorn in a kettle but that often used a lot of fat. Try this revised version and still enjoy the old fashioned flair of kettle corn.

Kettle Corn

Ingredients

1/2 cup unpopped popcorn kernels
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup olive oil

Directions

Place popcorn and sugar in a large covered pot with the oil.

Over medium heat, begin to pop the popcorn. Constantly shake the pot so the popcorn kernels do not burn. Once the popping has slowed, immediately remove the pot from heat.

If not quickly removed from heat, sugar will burn. Serve immediately.

Notable Note Notable Note

The origin of kettle corn dates back to the 1700's, from the period of the pioneers. They popped corn in a large iron vessel by using lard obtained from hogs. It was believed in the olden days, that kettle corn cooked in iron kettles was the most tasty. Presently found in almost all entertainment zones in the United States, popcorn is a low calorie snack, rich in dietary fibers.
