Making some healthful fresh home made applesauce is a snap when you utilize your slow cooker.
Ingredients
6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1/4 cup water
1-1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup red hot candies (optional)
Directions
Peel, core and slice apples into your slow cooker until it is about three-quarters full.
Add about 1/4-cup of water and 1-1/2 cups of sugar.
If desired, add 1/4-cup red hot candies for cinnamon-candy applesauce.
Cook the apples on low for 8 hours or until apples are tender.
Use a nonstick potato masher to "mash" the apples into applesauce right in the slow-cooker. Serve warm, or refrigerate and serve cold.
Notable Nutrition Note
Applesauce contains many phytonutrients that act as antioxidants, such as catechin, phloridzin and chlorogenic acid. These fight free radicals and protect your DNA and cells from oxidative damage. Applesauce is the perfect snack for when you need a boost of nutrients and something sweet and delicious.
